Installation Instructions



Windows

The latest version of JAVA must be installed BEFORE you install SPSS.
If you are unsure about the JAVA version currently running on your PC, update HERE.


Make sure you download the JAVA that corrosponds with your Operating System (i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit)

  1. Determine which version of the SPSS software you need (Windows or Mac).
  2. Check that your computer meets the System Requirements.
  3. Open the containing folder and run setup.exe. This will run the installation interface and will provide you with the option to install SPSS.
  4. In Windows 7 double click the zipped folder you downloaded named “Windows” to open it.
    NOTE: Older versions of Windows (such as XP or Vista) may require you to extract the zipped files (right click on the folder and select “extract all”) to your desktop. If you do not have an application that allows you to unzip the files, download a 3rd party application. Winzip or Winrar have free licenses available online.
  5. In the folder you opened or unzipped, open the folder named “windows” – and run setup.exe by double clicking it. This will run the installation interface and will provide you with the option to install SPSS.
  6. Be sure to look on the task bar for a blinking Yellow Shield if it appears your installation is not proceeding. Clicking this and allowing SPSS to make changes to the computer will allow the installation to proceed.
  7. Select language (English is default) and click “Ok.”
  8. Select “next” after reading introduction.
  9. Select “site license” installation type - Click “next”.
  10. Accept the terms of the License Agreement if you wish to install the software. If you fail to do so SPSS will not install.
  11. When prompted, use your real name in name field and type "University of Central Florida" in the organization field.
  12. Select help language (English is default).
  13. Choose an installation destination folder. For easy access create a new folder within your applications titled "SPSS".
  14. Review installation information.
  15. Select install. Installation may take a few minutes depending on your hardware.
  • For AMOS: Follow the same proceedure using the AMOS zip file and selection on the installation selection interface through setup.exe.

Mac OS
  1. Determine which version of the SPSS software you need (Windows or Mac).
  2. Check that your computer meets the System Requirements.
  3. Click on the corresponding download link and save the file to your desktop.
  4. Unzip program package. Mac OS has an inherent unzip utility that will typically do this step for you. Double click on the “MacOS.zip” folder to extract the files.
  5. Open the extracted file “MacOS” and run SPSS_Statistics_installer.dmg by double clicking it.
  6. Select language (English is default). Click “Ok.”
  7. Select “next” after reading introduction.
  8. Select “site license” type - Click “next.”
  9. Accept the terms of the License Agreement if you wish to install the software. If you fail to do so SPSS will not install.

  11. Select help language (English is default).
  12. Choose an installation folder. For easy access create a new folder within your applications titled "SPSS".

    NOTE: AMOS is a Windows only product and cannot be installed on Mac OSX Operating systems.

After installation Completes
  1. Select "License My Product Now"
  2. When prompted, Enter Your Serial Number - You must be connected to the internet to complete this step.
    Failure to complete this step will place your SPSS into trial mode until Serial Number is entered and processed by IBM.
  3. NOTE: If you have installed the SPSS software on a trial basis (without an authorization code), you will need to authorize your installation by opening the application “SPSS Licensing Authorization Wizard” on your Windows or Apple computer.
